They returned to Roncesvalles in the 16th century, leaving the vineyards to the farm labourers. From then onwards, the slopes have been used to grow vineyards on terraces facing the sun, sheltered from the winds of the north. The wines of Iroul\u00e9guy, with the designation \u201cVignobles & D\u00e9couvertes\u201d and AOC since 1970, are available in three colours: red, pink and white!<\/p>\n

The vineyard of Iroul\u00e9guy is sandwiched between\u00a0the municipalities of Saint-Etienne-de-Ba\u00efgorry and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port<\/strong>. The vineyard is named after the town of Iroul\u00e9guy (Irulegi in the Basque language), located at a distance of 6 km from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. This is a small vineyard, with just 200 hectares…. A very special vineyard
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Firstly, it isone of the smallest mountain vineyards in France<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0The Iroul\u00e9guy vineyard spreads across some 250 hectares<\/strong>\u00a0.\u00a0Given that the vines are planted on the mountain slopes,\u00a0the vine growers follow the traditional method of performing the work by hand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Iroul\u00e9guy producers have maintained\u00a0the regional grape varieties<\/strong>\u00a0. All come from far southwestern France.<\/p>\n

The Tannat, a native grape variety, gives colour, strength and body to the red and ros\u00e9 wines, while Cabernet adds finesse and bouquet.
